Principal's message

Dear parents, carers and school community members

Thank you for the warm welcome!

My first week at South Wagga Public School will always be a memorable time as I have felt truly embraced by all our school community members. What has immediately impressed me about our school is our amazing students. They are dedicated learners who demonstrate values which make them respectful citizens. Whilst visiting the classrooms and being in the playground this week, I have noticed that without exception the students have welcomed me with a smile and a greeting and all have been eager to share with me qualities that make them unique. What is evident is their passion for learning and their strong sense of pride and connectedness to their school.
Over the next few weeks my focus is on understanding our school. This began when I met with Mr Smith last week where he provided an insight into the school and the direction it is currently heading. Listening to our community including parents, staff and students will provide strong evidence as to where our school is and where it is going.
It has been wonderful to meet the parents and carers of our community. I have been out on the playground before and after school talking with parents. Please feel free to come and introduce yourself as I wish to make connections with all our families. On Wednesday night our P&C met, where clearly they are committed to involving our community in our school and fundraising so as to enhance the learning programs that we provide. Thank you to the efforts of everyone that  attended and I look forward to seeing as many people as possible at future meetings as I believe ‘many hands make light work'.
Also this week I have been speaking with all staff to build my understanding of the already strong programs which our school provides. They have shared with me the things that they are most proud of about our school and also where they see we can further enhance the  opportunities that we provide for our students and community. Our school is very fortunate to have such a committed and supportive staff and I look forward to supporting professional  learning in our school.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Stage 3 Netball Gala Day. I was exceptionally  impressed with the students' sportsmanship and level of support for each other. Their ability to work collaboratively, demonstrate interdependence and perseverance (all of which are  embraced in our whole school How2Learn strategy) was certainly noted. I also wish to acknowledge the victorious efforts of both our Stage 3 girls Austag team and Stage 3 Rugby League team who won all their games to proceed to the next round. A tremendous effort by all our Stage 3 students on the sporting arena! It was wonderful to see the parents there to  support our students and I would also like to thank the staff for organising this day. Next week I look forward to dropping in on band practice and see for myself the talented  students who proudly represent our school.
By working together we are able to ensure every child in our school reaches their full potential. I look forward to building connections with all school members. Please feel free to come and speak with me at any time as my door is always open.
